Chicago, IL January 17, 2018: Rumi is very excited about its recent and first seasonal themed launch of their Traditional Mulling Spice blend – especially considering how cold Chicago has been this season. Like all Rumi spice blends, saffron is no stranger and joins the other ingredients of coriander, Ceylon cinnamon, orange peel, allspice, ginger, cardamom, black paper, clove, and mace to create a soul-warming and complex spicy scent.
Their new Traditional Mulling Spice blend was crafted with inspiration from the team’s favorite mulled wine - the Danish 'gløgg'. Gløgg is a mixture of red wine and rum and mulled with raisins and almonds, along with the typical spices found in the blend. Danes are known as the masters of all things 'hygge' (the trendy Danish word for 'cozy'), and they really hit the mark with their mulled wine. And yes, a real Dane tested and approved the blend before the launch!
Aside from mulled wines, mulling spices are often used for hot apple cider, wassail, and other warm drinks during autumn or winter. Rumi’s new blend was quickly picked up and featured on the menu by a fellow company (Pleasant House Pub & Bakery) of ‘The Plant Chicago’, the net-zero, closed-loop system food production space in Chicago’s Back of the Yards. Their home-fermented apple cider is stopped off with a dash of the Traditional Mulling Spice, which adds both incredible flavors and color to the cider.
