JUNEAU, AK, January 22, 2017 – Dear North, an Alaska Native company with deep roots in Glacier Bay stretching back over 10,000 years, is introducing a new Smoked Sockeye Salmon flavor today, Coriander & Malabar Pepper. Inspired by Turkish flavors of coriander, mustard, paprika, garlic and Malabar pepper, our new addition is a perfect complement to our Savory Fireweed flavor.
We celebrate the best of what Alaska has to offer and want to share its abundance and beauty with you. Alaska is a place like no other. Snow-capped mountains and lush green foliage give way to the glint of glaciers feeding into pristine waters. When you taste wild-caught Alaska salmon, you experience the very best that nature has to offer.
“In a place as exquisite as our home of Alaska, you embrace what is essential so as to live in harmony with the extreme elements of the environment,” said Russell Dick, CEO of Huna Totem Corporation. “Salmon is a vital part of the Alaska lifestyle. Fancy Food offers us the opportunity to share an undiscovered side of Alaska through food that is exceptional in taste, unexpected in its delicate flavors, and full of Alaska ingredients.”
Our Ocean-Bright Sockeye Salmon is wild-caught with reverence and care, rapidly chilled to ensure the best pure flavor and texture from sea to table. Preserved based on the centuries-old traditions of “putting up for the winter,” both flavors of our smoked salmon have rich flavor and a subtle smokiness that make the taste unforgettable. “As a staple of the Alaska diet, smoked salmon is a symbol of the communal nature in Alaska. Up here, we share the salmon we catch with our loved ones. I’ll often open a jar and pass it among friends as a sign of kinship and sharing,” said Russell. “Generosity is a big part of who we are and we are excited to share our exquisite products with you.”
Our second product line, wild-caught Coho Salmon Bites, a high protein “on the go” snack, is brined, and cooked low and slow for a tender texture that isn’t achieved with traditional jerkies. Featuring local ingredients, we created four flavor profiles never before experienced in bite-sized salmon snacks. With flavors ranging from fruity to spicy to slightly sweet, our Salmon Bites make a satisfying snack or addition to a charcuterie plate. Spruce tips contribute an herbal citrusy note. Fireweed and honey blend with a touch of cayenne for a slightly spicy sweetness. Salted rhubarb and raspberries add a tangy fruitiness. Sea kelp and sesame give a sweet and salty umami essence.
We bring Alaska to you, our neighbors. From our home to yours, we invite you to experience Dear North. Come join us at booth #5424, South Hall and enjoy our innovative products and experience a piece of Alaska.
